One of Richmond’s Oldest Shopping Centers Gets a Makeover Aug 20th, 2006
The University Shopping Center located on Eastern By-Pass Road in Richmond,
Kentucky is getting ready to undergo a well deserved makeover. This face-lift will
include a new façade, redesigned parking lot with beautifully landscaped islands, and
new pylon signs.
The Center has been apart of Richmond’s history since 1972, and has had the same look
since then. This is about to change! Here is a glimpse of what’s to come.
BEFORE

AFTER

The University Shopping Center is located beside Eastern Kentucky University. It is
anchored by E.W. James Grocery, Bluegrass Hardware, and a Rite Aid Pharmacy. Other
tenants are RentWay; Grand China Buffet; Pattie A Clay Instant Care Center,
Occupational Therapy, and Rehabilitation Center; A Carey-Lane Salon; H&R Block;
Beneficial; Total Body Tanning; Northridge Church; and Madison Bank.
Our newest tenant will be a total wellness facility (Richmond Athletic Club), owned by
two local physicians, Dr. Tim Micek and Dr. John Gillespie. They are now pre-enrolling
new members and will officially open the new location around the end of October or as
soon as renovation is completed.
